Herreleiten Keinemanne (Herrel, the Hidden One)
Herrel the Hidden One

Herrel, as he is commonly called, is a feisty, seemingly bad-tempered gnome that met up with Storm several decades ago. Like Morgan, he has no knowledge of who his parents are - or were. Unlike Morgan, however, he was raised as part of a gnome community, neither outcast nor truly belonging, rather than being accepted by one individual. He left the community when he came of age, much to the relief of the community.

He is an accomplished mimic, despite his thick gnomish accent, which is part of the reason he met Storm. It is never wise, he is sometimes heard to warn others, to mock the Elvenkin's arrogance with a drow in the room. It can get painful. As well as being able to mimic voices, Herrel is an accomplished forger. He can copy any document or signature with such accuracy as to not be distinguished from the original.

He followed Storm, partly from curiosity (what was a drow doing so far from home?), partly out of a desire for revenge for Storm having disrupted his adventures in the inn. Money had been good - up until Storm had given him such a shaking that all his night's gleanings had fallen from under his shirt. There was no going back to that inn again.

After a while, Herrel and Storm moved from an uneasy truce to a deep friendship. When prejudiced villagers had set upon the two like thieves and severely injured the drow, Herrel went for help. He'd heard rumours that there was a healer living not too far from where Storm had fallen.

In exchange for the life, Herrel opened up a small chest for the cleric, Morgan. Inside was a book that made his fingers tingle even before he'd laid eyes on it. The magical glow around it made Herrel decide that touching it was not a good idea.

Once healed, Storm and Herrel left Morgan's hut, returning every so often to offer news of the outside world, small goods to trade for Morgan's herbs and remedies, and frequently, fresh meat for the pot. On their last visit, Storm astonished Herrel by asking Morgan to go with them on this trip. While he liked the cleric well enough, he didn't think it necessary for a female to put herself into the dangers the two often faced. It took a while for Herrel to adjust to the new companion, but he eventually did.

Now, he is as firmly a friend to Morgan as he is to Storm. Which, given his irascible nature, means that both are subject to his odd sense of humour.
