About Peg

"Pegasus" has been my on-line nickname for several years now. I had originally started by using my amateur (ham) radio callsign, VE5CAP, but most people found that confusing. And, or so I was told, "Peg" is easier to type. I know it's easier to type than my real name - Cheryl.

The name of this site, peg-as-is, is a corruption of "Pegasus" and a statement about my own perspective of Life, taking people "as is", without judgement.

In the years that I've been on-line (including 5 years of moderating or running message board forums), I have only 'met' two or three people I dislike enough not to try to understand them. My penchant for giving people "just one more chance" exasperates some people, I know, and it amuses others.

I am often asked how I arrived at the nickname "Pegasus" when I admit to collecting unicorns, not winged horses. There are several reasons, the main one dealing with the first unicorn I ever bought.

I was working at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario at the time and a good friend saw the figurine saw the figurine on my dresser.

"Oh, cripes," she groaned. "Don't tell me you've started collecting horny horses, too!"

As was intended, I took the statement the wrong way and blushed furiously. Even now, thirty years later, the sight of that unicorn brings back those words. On the bright side, I don't blush about it any more.

When it came time to find an alternate on-line name, I decided to use a name that represented my enjoyment of fantasy. 'Unicorn' was obviously out of the question. A chance remark by a classmate gave me an idea. I was working on a project and my classmate called my idea a "wonderful flight of fantasy." 'Pegasus' sprang to mind as a possible nickname and I've been that ever since.
